As soon as this week started, I just knew there wouldn't be enough time in it. It's all the busy that comes with this time of year, thrown on top of all the busy that comes with the everyday… and I know it's an overwhelming relatable busy… unfortunately I don't have enough wits about me to maneuver through the noise of it.
My brain can't retain a thought for any time longer then the brief moment it passes through, which could very well be do to the amount of fumes, from my paint pens and hot glue gun, I've inhaled over the last few days. My lists are scattered with intentions, without the focus on compilation and my house is in such a disaster, that typing that, caused me to violently bolt myself off the couch and go all Mommy Dearest on this place. I think the kids picked up on the vibe, because they snuck off into Joey's room and quietly played until the whirl wind that closely resembled their Mother slowed down it's pace... Tis' the season, and I know all too well, this is not a pond I swim in alone.
I'm trying to soak it all in, but want everything perfectly executed.. An impossible balance… yet one that grow a certain anxiety within me, consistently every year… this year is no different… in fact.. this year it's worse.
Wesley's decided he wants to skip his, take a few friends to the bowling alley after school and eat all things grease from a pizza joint, birthday celebration this year and have a full on, rent the local rec. center, invite more than a few, and Harry Potter Theme Birthday it up….. and Harry Potter Theme Birthday it up, we will! Because, though Christmas sprits are high, they don't hold a candle to my baby turn 9…
But because we can't get to December 4th, without going through December 1st, a bit of seasonal anxiety was relieved once our advent Calendars got hung… and I must say, I could have cried when it was finished, even though it was the easiest thing to do, it wasn't the easiest to find time to get done, and the mixture of knowing that a new tradition was created this year, with the fact that my kids are head over heals excited for it, makes glue burns on my fingers and bags under my eyes, more then worth it.
{Christmas Spirit is at his tricks again, pulling this suckers down from the wall in the middle of the night!}
The fact that I love traditions and want to fill our families years with as many as a year can hold, is no secret of mine.
One of my most favorite family traditions, this time a year, is the Christmas Eve efforts my Dad's side of the family makes to spend time with each other. I don't remember a year that this hasn't happened, and I want my kids to know that too… and although with busy schedules and growing families we've moved it from Christmas Eve to the Weekend before Christmas, the purpose of the allotted time is still there, 10 fold.
Which brings me to this month's giveaway, which is sponsored by Second Sanctuary who will be giving away a beautiful Classic American Lap Quilt (54'x81") in the bright primary colors, that we so love in our very own Second Sanctuary quilt that is often spotted in many of the pictures on my blog. So excited about this giveaway. My favorite tradition is baking Christmas cookies with my cousin.
LOVE THIS QUILT!!!!!! we are enjoying snow here now and hoping to FINALLY finish decorating the tree :)
My favorite Christmas tradition thus far is bugging to put our Christmas tree a month too early and finally getting to put it up the day after Thanksgiving. Now that the kids can help hang the ornaments, it is by far my favorite tradition!!!
Crazy crazy in this house this week!! I am only one week in and already exhausting all of my elf tricks, but jay is having a blast trying to find him every morning. ALL of the traditions are my favorite and I am so glad to providing the memories for my children. Can't wait to see pics of Wes' party!!
One of our favorite traditions is making sugar cookies on Christmas eve for Santa.. ;)
One of my favorite traditions is when we load up the family, get big cups of hot chocolate and ride around town looking at all the Christmas lights!
I love everything about Christmas. But my favorite tradition is one that was started about 9 years ago. Every Christmas Eve morning, a bunch of us girls who went to high school together, meet up for breakfast. Over the years it has expanded to include lots of kids as families expand. It's a standing tradition, same time, same place, Christmas Eve.
Great blog again, by the way!
Brady and I always make homemade chocolates and deliver them to friends and family. Love, Love, Love this time of year!
So many traditions to choose from...one is that each stocking gets a new ornament every year that way when they are grown and doing a tree on their nown they a have memories of years past!!
The kids all get the same Jammies and we rock them as early as we can on Xmas eve, {thru the letting the kids make cookies/brownies for Santa and me not letting my neuroticness get in the way of letting them do as much as possibly to make them without me} and then wear them into Christmas morning...last year that's what they wore for their Xmas pics too :)
My favorite christmas tradition is new PJs on Christmas Eve. Makes winding the evening up and getting the kids to bed a little easier!! And...who doesn't love new PJs!
Like other comments we also do the PJ's on Christmas Eve thing, but one of my other most favorite traditions, is when Santa leaves an extra present in the kids seats in the van, for when we leave to go to church in the morning.
I love the quilt as well and loved this blog. Traditions are such an important part of family :) I've done Christmas cookies since Krista, Josh, and Mook were little...now we've added many more little ones to the mix...one of my most favorite times of the year.
I love your advent calendar....what a lot of work! We also do Elf on the Shelf...this is "Jingles" third season with us, I can only imagine the craziness he reports to Santa every night! I think it's great your Elf is Buddy (I know your love for Will F.). My family favorite tradition is one that we have created with the kids...and something I didn't do when I was younger...cutting down our own Christmas tree!! I look forward to it every year now!
Into PJs as early as we can on Christmas Eve. Then it is a full out snuggle on the couch while we watch a series from TV that we have been meaning to get to all year long. It is one of the best days of the year.
My favorite Christmas tradition is a new one to me the last couple of years as part of the Hughes family. On Christmas morning we eat Pat's mom's famous breakfast casserole that you can make the night before and enjoy during the present unwrapping. Sally is no longer with us now and while I'm sure my cooking doesn't hold a candle to hers, I'm honored to keep the tradition going.
I was admiring the beautiful quilts on second sanctuary and I was thinking what a cute photo of these adorable kids in the pic on her etsy shop. I typed in your name and it took me to this wonderful blog about your daily, life with your children. What an insiration you are to all the moms out there. Your kids are so cute. I have two girls myself ages 11 and 6 and I can relate to so many things. The ups and downs and so many wonderful times.
One of my favourite Christmas traditions is to have hot chocolate with my girls, listen to Christmas songs as we make our own decorations.
OLDEST CHRISTMAS TRADITION IS MAKIMG SUGAR COOKIES WITH HOMEMADE BUTTERCREAM FROSTING !!!! NEWEST TRADITION IS MAKING N PLACING A WREATH O MY DADS GRAVE
Favorite tradition is hanging out with my dorky cousin on Xmas eve.
